I AM…and Birmingham Magic City Black Expo
The Birmingham Magic City Black Expo is an event which highlights the African-American entrepreneurial spirit in Birmingham and throughout Alabama. There was a variety of businesses specializing in natural skin rejuvenation to Birmingham lawyers providing free legal advice. The I AM girls’ participation was important because it allowed them expoure to the ”professional” realm of African-American leadership and upward mobility. A task assigned to each I AM girl was to meet one business owner, receive their contact information and hopefully develop a rapport so when the summer hits, they can “shadow” the business owner and become aware of the inner workings of owning your own business, the other main goal was to have fun, be in an environment which is new, exciting and awakening to the mind. The girls definitely enjoyed themselves and will be in anticipation for next years event.
